From weeds to opportunity: building a better future together with Ghanaian farmers

Imagine: you are working with your family on a small piece of land in the green heart of Ghana. You grow cassava, bananas, palms… and bamboo grows between your crops. You once saw it as a weed; now it is your unexpected opportunity for more income. We have now registered 3,877 farmers, 843 of whom are actively supplying us. This allows us to ensure more stable incomes and more opportunities for their families.

Samuel’s story: "A huge opportunity for my family"

“I was having a hard time; my income was disappointing. When I started working with The Good Roll, I really had to adjust. Why did they want the bamboo on my land? What can you even do with that?

When I understood that they make sustainable paper pulp from it and also wanted to pay me a fair price, I saw it as a huge opportunity. Thanks to the extra income, I was finally able to continue building my house.”

Farmer John: "Hope for the youth in Akosombo again"

“My son now also works at The Good Roll factory. We have been able to pay off our debts, and young people in the village of Akosombo are gaining hope for work and a good future because of this.”

This is why we do it.

We buy bamboo that grows ‘by accident’ on the land and would otherwise often have been burned, at a fair price. Farmers are paid directly, with a fixed price per kilo. The result? Their income increases by an average of 59%. But the impact is more than money: less monoculture, healthier soil, and new opportunities for families and villages.

With every hectare of bamboo, not only does the income grow, but so does the pride. Farmers are renovating their homes, sending their children to school, and sometimes even buying their first motorcycle. Small steps, big dreams.

Now we want to grow.

The world is demanding sustainable paper. That is why we are expanding our factory and issuing bonds. This way, even more farmers can participate, bamboo is given real value, and more children can go to school thanks to The Good Roll Foundation.
