THE GOOD ROLL FACTORY

Breaking the chain with the world’s first Fair Trade bamboo pulp factory in Africa.

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE LOO

Newsflush: making paper doesn’t have to mean chopping down trees. In fact, if you ask us? That’s ancient history. The Good Roll Africa is here to prove there’s a better way. And that way starts with opening the world’s first ever Fair Trade bamboo factory in Ghana! From turning local bamboo into pulp and creating sustainable products, to improving the lives of local communities, we’ve got so much great work to do here.

Keep rolling to find out how…

Farmers can boost their income by 245% by growing bamboo on just 20% of their land. That’s an extra €4,500 in stable income per year!

NO BUTTS. IT’S GOT TO BE BAMBOO

A round of applause for bamboo – the sustainability superhero with the power to grow 40 times faster and absorb 35% more carbon dioxide than trees. That’s not all. Bamboo also needs minimal water, regenerates after harvesting and prevents soil erosion. Potty, right? It’s good news for farmers, who can tick replanting off their to-do lists and keep harvesting in the same spot for years. Now that’s what we call a win.

Even more good news: Ghana is chock full of bamboo. And while local farmers used to treat it as a pesky weed, our factory is helping them see it for the valuable resource it is.

A SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN

In our factory, we turn locally-grown bamboo into pulp to form the foundation of our sustainable, tree-friendly toilet paper. But the impact goes so much further. Thanks to the factory, 150 Ghanaians now have jobs, with over 1,000 farmers earning a stable income.

We’re long-term thinkers, so we’re also making sure farmers get plenty of training and guidance on how to farm more sustainably and improve their practices. Because sure, transforming lives is great, but if we can improve families’ futures too? That’s our kind of no brainer.

Producing pulp in Ghana means lower CO2 emissions, more jobs and a stronger local economy. Goodbye imports from China and India, hello shorter supply chains and greater positive impact.

FROM BAMBOO TO BATHROOM, WITHOUT THE WASTE

Our factory runs on a zero-waste principle. We use all bamboo residues (like powders and fibres) as compost or biomass, making sure nothing ever gets canned. We’re powered by green energy – think solar and biomass – which means we can keep our impact at rock bottom and our sustainability ambitions soaring.

THE WORLD’S FIRST FAIR TRADE PULP FACTORY

When the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) recognised our pulp factory as a Fair Trade Enterprise, it was an actual world first. We were bowled over! Until now, Fair Trade hasn’t been the standard in the paper industry – and we say that changes now. We will always give farmers fair prices and the security that comes with knowing we’ll keep buying their bamboo.

Our factory keeps the supply chain completely transparent, so everyone has a clear picture of where their paper comes from. It’s all about tapping into scalable social and sustainable impact that really can last forever.

THE PAPER TRAIL: REINVENTING RAW MATERIALS

Sure, toilet paper is our jam, but can anything else be made from bamboo pulp? The simple answer… Yes! From packaging to hygiene products and so much more, this magic material is the sustainable swap ready to transform entire industries. Now, sectors that traditionally rely on wood and other harmful stuff have a greener, cleaner path to take.

And our factory in Ghana is just the beginning. We’re building a whole network of bamboo pulp factories across Africa, laying the foundation for economic growth and environmental protection throughout the continent.
