Why does The Good Roll use wrappers?
As you know, we are known for our cheerful wrappers that are wrapped around every toilet paper roll. We are very proud of that, but why do we actually do this? Is this sustainable? These are the questions we are regularly asked. Whoever asks will receive an answer…. Read more…..
There are several reasons why we dress our toilet paper in a sexy jacket.
First of all,
Did the wrappers catch your attention? They did…? That’s exactly what we want! To stand out and draw attention to our toilet roll. The visibility and brand awareness that we get with this makes us unforgettable and also more purchased. This way we turn a somewhat boring daily product into a party. And that means that we can make more impact. The more we sell, the more money we can donate to The Good Roll Foundation .
The Good Roll foundation has one goal: to make sustainable sanitation available. Our foundation was established to spend the money we raise from the sale of our rolls as effectively as possible on the construction of sanitation, without making a profit. Every year we donate 50% of the net profit to the construction of toilets in developing countries. Bam!
In addition to 100% European recycled toilet paper, we also want to contribute to less plastic packaging material. That is why our toilet paper is (often) wrapped in wrappers. Some of our customers find it more hygienic if each roll can be displayed or stored free of moisture and dust.
Is the wrapper also made of recycled paper, just like the cardboard box?
Yes, our wrappers are made from 100% European recycled paper, just like the toilet paper and kitchen rolls you are used to from us.
If we are already busy wrapping our toilet paper, we do it right. That is why we always make fun designs to give your toilet or bathroom a nice atmosphere! Or a nice gift perhaps?
The wrappers are printed with ink, isn't this sustainable?
Good question! The ink we use on our wrappers may be called BIO or ECO ink. It is more environmentally friendly because vegetable oil is used instead of synthetic oil. The inks do not contain mineral oils or substances from genetically modified organisms (except soy oil) and are free of VOC. These are organic and therefore better for the environment. The color series we use meets the requirements for printing of the EU Eco-label , the Austrian Eco-label, the Nordic Swan and Der Blaue Engel . This series is also certified for Cradle-to-Cradle .
The raw materials used for the manufacture of these products are mainly based on vegetable and renewable sources (e.g. modified rosin, vegetable oils, alkyd resins, fatty acid esters). The share of renewable raw materials is higher than 70%. All raw materials used are non-food and do not compete with the food supply chain.
All products are REACH compliant. The EuPIA exclusion policy for printing inks and related products is strictly adhered to. Energy-efficient and resource-friendly production through the use of pigment pastes for most applications and leads to a significant reduction of the energy-consuming drying and milling process of pigments.
The inks meet the deinking criteria according to test method INGEDE 11 and meet the requirements of the deinking scorecard of the European Recovered Paper Council .
Hopefully it is now a bit clearer why we wrap the toilet rolls, but if you really want to go for sustainable, we also have the wrapless version in our webshop. The same quality roll but without the sexy jacket.
Since the wrappers are 100% FSC, you can simply throw them in the waste paper. But do you like crafting and are you also a bit creative? Then see these cool creations from our customers:
