Curious about what it means to be a B Corp? Read on!
Why are we a B Corp?
In an era where sustainability and social responsibility are becoming increasingly important, companies that are committed to positive change are super important. One way companies can show this is by becoming B Corp certified. But what exactly does this mean? And why is it important? Let’s take a look at what B Corp certification entails, what B Corp month means, and why we’re so proud to be a B Corp!
Here are a few reasons why we are a B Corp:
Transparency is our middle name! As a B Corp, we put everything on the table: from how we run the store to the impact we make. With our 'Circle of Goodness' we are like an open book! This ensures that we always keep ourselves sharp and want to be better every day.
Social impact , duh! We donate 50% of our net profit to building toilets in Africa. Yes, you read that right! This way we ensure soft bottoms and clean hands where they are needed most. And we go one step further by offering opportunities in our social workplace in the Netherlands to those who could use an extra push to participate again.
Sustainability . At The Good Roll, we are huge fans of a clean planet! As a proud B-Corp, we understand how essential it is to put mother nature first. So, we are working hard to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible. Our toilet paper is an eco-friendly combo of bamboo, kraft, and pure recycled paper. We leave out all chemicals, dyes, and fragrances. That's how we do it: less impact on the environment and all for a world that is as fresh as our toilet paper!
Our super team! For us, the team is just as important as our mission. We are committed to a work environment where everyone is equal. Our goal? To boost, stimulate and inspire everyone in the team with a good dose of motivation. Together we make the impossible possible!
What does it mean if a company is a B Corp?
Being a B Corp is about more than just making a profit. It’s all about making a positive impact on society and the environment, while also pursuing our own goals. B Corps must be transparent in their practices, their impact on employees, the environment, and their customers. So we set the bar very high when it comes to social and environmental practices and are always looking for ways to improve!
What happens during B Corp Month?
During this special month, B Corp companies are going all-in! Think webinars, panel discussions, volunteering, and workshops – you name it. For example, we hosted our own event, The Good Event. Here, we not only looked back on our journey so far, but we also looked at our future plans. And guess what? We had inspiring guest speakers, other B Corp companies, and our partners visiting. Here, we networked and got to know each other's sustainable products. In short, B Corp month is full of energy and inspiration where we make a positive impact on the world together!
What is a B Corp Certification?
But what exactly is a B Corp certification? It stands for 'Benefit Corporation' and is awarded to companies that set the social and green bar high. In the Netherlands, there are already 211 companies that can call themselves B Corp. And we are proud to be one of them! Worldwide, this even concerns 3,600 companies. These companies are not only about profit, but mainly about making a positive impact. But to obtain this quality mark, you have to tick quite a few boxes.
First, a company’s governance needs to be well-organized. Companies need to demonstrate a transparent and honest approach to their governance processes. Next, companies need to be open about their business practices. This includes financial information, environmental reporting, and social impact. This provides a clear picture of their activities. There is nothing to hide. Third, environmental performance is important. B Corp companies are assessed on their impact on the environment and their efforts to reduce the impact of energy use, waste management, and sustainable materials. Finally, companies need to demonstrate a commitment to social performance. This includes fair labor practices, diversity, customer satisfaction, and contributing to society as a whole.
If all these factors are positive, the company will be given the honor of calling itself a B Corp company. It takes a bit of work, but it is all worth it!
Conclusion
In short, B Corp certifications, B Corp Month, and companies like us rock the transition to a greener, fairer world. By highlighting our positive impact this month, we can inspire others too! Let’s build a future together where business success and a better world don’t get in each other’s way, but go hand in hand.
