Our bamboo toilet paper is already incredibly popular and we understand that! Because it is softer and more sustainable than recycled toilet paper. Why? We will explain that to you now.

For some time now, The Good Roll has been selling bamboo toilet paper in addition to regular toilet paper, the so-called panda edition. Toilet paper made from bamboo has many advantages compared to regular toilet paper, which is made from trees or old paper. First of all, bamboo is a type of grass and can grow up to a meter per day. Bamboo is fully grown after about a year, much faster than a tree. A tree takes an average of 40 years to fully grow. That is why less surface area is needed to produce bamboo toilet paper compared to regular toilet paper.

Another advantage of bamboo compared to wood is that bamboo plantations absorb 100 to 400 tons of CO2 per hectare. The bamboo plant does not die after the bamboo for toilet paper has been harvested, the plant grows back. After about a year, the plant is fully grown again and can be harvested again. Unmanaged bamboo forests hardly store any new CO2 because the bamboo has already largely grown.

In March, The Good Roll will open its first factory that will produce its own bamboo toilet paper in Ghana. In the course of 2022, The Good Roll will switch completely to bamboo toilet paper made in its own factory. The bamboo used for the production of our toilet paper comes from local Ghanaian farmers.

For these farmers, bamboo is currently a waste product, as it grows like grass on the edges of their fields. Because the farmers can sell their bamboo to The Good Roll factory, the farmers in Ghana can generate additional income. The farmers receive a fair price for the bamboo that they sell to The Good Roll factory, making the bamboo a fair trade product. Once again, the advantages of bamboo toilet paper in a row:

• Bamboo toilet paper is better for the environment than regular toilet paper because the bamboo plant grows faster than a tree.

• Farmers in Ghana are getting extra income because the waste product has now gained value.

• The farmers receive a fair price for the bamboo they supply to the factory.
