Is The Good Roll Expensive?
This is a question we often hear. If you compare our price per roll with the price per roll of a random supermarket, it quickly gives the impression that you are better off with another brand. But did you know that this is actually not the case? In this blog we explain step by step why our rolls have the price they have, and what exactly you should look for when you compare our rolls with other rolls.
The Good Roll, the Good Roll Foundation and the good
You probably already know us, but to refresh your memory a bit… Here’s a quick summary of who we are, what we do, and how we do it.
We are The Good Roll, makers of bamboo toilet paper and 100% European recycled toilet paper. Our paper is free of chlorine, dyes and fragrances. Our packaging is also 100% plastic-free. Furthermore, we have a lot of sustainable certificates that prove our impact and environmental friendliness. And did you know that we are also B Corp certified ?
Besides the fact that we sell sustainable toilet paper, we are also very busy improving the world. How exactly we do that, you can read below!
Our social workshop
In the Netherlands, we make an impact by, among other things, offering a social workplace for people who have a distance to the labor market. This can have various causes, including physical complaints, bad luck or problems on the road. These people are guided at our workplace, so that they also get a fair chance to work.
The Good Roll Foundation
In addition, we donate 50% of our net profit to The Good Roll Foundation, which ensures that new, safe and clean toilets are built in Ghana. The Foundation also provides education about menstruation to girls in schools in collaboration with Days For Girls and builds toilets in ways that even provide clean drinking water. Because we have our own Foundation, we can guarantee that 100% of our donations actually reach the people and projects that need it. You can read more about the projects of The Good Roll Foundationhere .
With every toilet roll sold, we try to make the world a little better. But, we promised to give you more information about why our rolls have a certain price. Because why does that seem so expensive?!
Cheap is not always good
Did you know that many products that we use in daily life are often too cheap? These items are produced for a few cents in other countries. Here it may be that they have less strict environmental restrictions, or that employees have to work under poor conditions and do not receive fair compensation for their labor. And then these products also have to be brought into our country! Cheap prices of ultra cheap products do not offer a fair and healthy balance between people, environment and yield.
We don't believe in that. That's why we can guarantee that everyone who contributed to the production of our toilet rolls has been paid fairly for their work. From the bamboo farmers and the employees in our bamboo toilet paper factory in Ghana, to the packers in our social workshop in the Netherlands. In order to determine the sales price of our products, all this is taken into account. As a result, the prices per roll can sometimes be a bit higher than the prices per roll of a random house brand in the supermarket. But the result? A fair price for a fair product. How many supermarkets can say that? ;)
Sustainable does not have to be more expensive
Sustainable toilet paper is also not always more expensive than regular A-brand toilet paper that you can get in the supermarket. Did you know that sustainability can also reward? Many sustainable products last longer.
For example, look at our bamboo toilet paper . A box of 24 rolls lasts one person an average of 3 months. One bamboo roll has 300 sheets, instead of the standard 200 sheets per toilet roll that you are used to from other brands. And our recycled rolls? They even have 400 sheets per roll!
A brand name toilet roll may seem cheaper per piece, but you will also use it up faster. In the end, you will not save those few cents per roll in your expenses when you buy a cheaper roll, instead of our bamboo toilet roll. In addition, we also deliver our rolls to your door for convenience, which also saves a trip to the supermarket.
But isn't home delivery sustainable?
We get your point! How sustainable is it to deliver, with all those CO2 emissions from the delivery vans? Fortunately, we have also limited our negative impact on the environment as much as possible. For example, we work together with delivery service Budbee , which only delivers with electric vans or vans that run on frying fat. We also have a partnership with JustDiggit , where we compensate our other CO2 emissions by investing in JustDiggit's re-greening projects.
Do you still think we are too expensive?
We can hear you thinking: it's just toilet paper! But how great is it that you can make such a positive impact with such a simple product?
Then take a look at our very own poo-parison based on our Naked Panda Bamboo toilet paper :
So supermarket own brand is cheaper after all!
That's right. But as you've read, we consciously choose to have the production of our toilet rolls have as little negative impact on people and nature as possible through sustainable production, sustainable raw materials and social workshops. And we think that our current price per roll is completely worth it. Hopefully you do too!
Ps. Did you know that we also offer an option to take out a subscription? This way you save 10% per order! Take a look in our webshop !
